GOP Maintains Solid Hold On Youth That Already Look Like Old Men

Personally, my favorite Onion outlet are their videos. This one is about how the GOP mainly attracts older men and in turn younger white men who hold the same ideals as them. Is it offensive? Idk, I don’t think so but a friend of mine mentioned how this video was stereotyping….Let me know what you think.

  1. I don’t think it’s offensive but they kind of missed the chance to hit the nail on the head. Trump’s campaign–contrary to popular opinion–is not headed solely by white men. They make a nod to “sorority girls” but still miss the point. His campaign is supported by a fearful, angry part of America that isn’t limited to one demographic and we should focus on that.

  2. I personally don’t find this video offensive. Although, it could have benefited from a application to the current election. The play on the stereotypes of voters became a bit old after a while. But the organization of the piece and the creativity in mocking the attributes of the voters kept it interesting.

  3. This video was definitely funny, but could have made more of a statement. Other than that, it was a solid representation of the youth that today’s GOP tends to attract. It was refreshing to see something funny related to politics that has nothing to do with Trump.

  4. I think this video was pretty funny. But I do feel as if I was waiting the entirety of the video waiting for the big punch line. It was an effective video though, so I can’t complain too much. I will admit though, I laughed way too hard at “Man Babies”.

  5. I don’t think I’m in the mood to laugh this week. Parts of this humored me, I appreciated the reversal of the old people who dress like 20 year olds, but I didn’t laugh out loud.

  6. The video is not offensive, but made me feel sick. Republicans are grows, especially when you stereotype them. In this situation, I find crazy Trump video/sayings funnier.

  7. I will agree with others, it wasn’t offensive, but it was rather stereotyping. Yes, that is what the Onion does, but there are still some who don’t realize that it’s dramatic hyperbole. I have no love lost for Republican ideals, but still. If liberals aren’t all hippies who don’t understand how the government works, republicans aren’t all old white men. It’s kinda a two-way street. However, it was quite funny, so I can’t even say much! Well done Onion, though there’s the risk of people not getting the joke.

  8. The onion knocked it out of the park on this one. I do not think it was offensive, especially because it added the joke about demcratic voters. Correlation does not prove causation, but it does seem like most young GOP voters fit the descriptions provided.

  9. I thought this humor was dry. It didn’t make me laugh ou loud, but I still liked it because of the subtle drops of humor both on the youth and the elderly.

  10. This made me laugh pretty hard. I know I’m guilty of generalizing here, but the observations made of young republican voters are so true! On a side note, I hope the person who developed The Onion’s video player is charged with crimes against humanity for their shoddy work.

  11. Oh my God. It was great. 10/10 they hit it right out of the park. The Onion has this really talented eye for picking incredibly obtuse topics that no one would think to make a joke out of that still ring so incredibly true to reality. It’s fantastic. The GOP is relevant today with the election, but it’s not something about Trump or Cruz.

  12. I don’t think it was offensive, but I also don’t think it was funny. Accurate, but lackluster. It make me snort, I guess, but the joke is very overdone and the delivery just wasn’t there. Onion should just leave the parody videos to John Oliver and Colbert.

  14. I enjoyed this. There’s a lot of painful truth in humor, and this is absolutely an example of that. I wouldn’t call it offensive, but I would say the truth of it is sad.

  15. I think it’s very funny in a cute non controversial way. I’m usually a little more critical of light hearted humor but this was funny for sure. Definitely wouldn’t have been funny in print or radio because you need to see the nerdy looking young men who dress like old conservative men to really get the point, I feel like the repetition in showing multiple shots of these young men paid off. I like how simple the story was, I feel like sometimes the onion tries to pull off a story a little too complicated to capture in a brief video, this was just one simple and obvious joke that was worked from every angle, simple and smart.
